Aging and older DVD media scans

PI/PIF looks nice, but crazy jitter

AFAIR the 4163B use 16x P-CAV

Media: Maxell DVD-R
MID: RITEKF1
Recorder: NEC ND-2510A
Recording speed: 4x
Recorded: 2010

Scanned 04.2018

Scanned 08.2019 (cold drive)

Scanned 08.2019 (warm drive)

Stored inside DVD wallet

Still OK for this media.

But only 4x burning, is the 2510 so bad at higher speed?

Back in the day (early 2000s) I had habit to burn the discs half the rated speed of the drive to avoid possible coasters. In the student days the blanks were expensive (at least for me) and were part of the shared budget for beer/nightlife

I still own the drive, maybe some day I will do tests at 8x with newly produced media.

I rarely burn Ritek 16x-media at full speed, but 8x-12x should work fine

MCC 02RG20 could be a great media. But the last batch I get many years ago had problems at the end of the disc, older batches were much better
