My current system consists of an Asus P4B motherboard, 256Mb of PC100 SDRAM!, Intel Celeron 1.7GHz
I'm not interested in games.
I'm interested in DVD ripping, encoding and authoring and WAV -> MP3 encoding using latest LAME version, with -PRESET EXTREME setting.
I also use ADOBE READER a lot for reading PDF files.
My system seems to average at about 4* CD speed using LAME 3.96 -PRESET EXTREME
My laptop with just a Celeron 1.4GHz seems to average at 7* CD speed, so it seems my first generation P4 board using the old SDRAM is severely crippled.
I've been thinking about getting an ADM 2500+barton with dual DDR motherboard with 2*512Mb PC3200 memory, since this seems to be cheaper than an Intel CPU and board.
But, after some searching, I also found out that the Intel might be better suited for the specific tasks I'm interested in.
Please be aware I'm not into overclocking, and probably don't want to be since it means more heat generated and more fan noise...
Any suggestions ?
Can anybody tell the LAME -PRESET EXTREME performance of their (better) systems...
