Advanced Help Needed with XP Bootloader edit

Basically, I have 2 identical but different bootloader entries and only one is needed/used. I had to install a copy of Windows for someone else on my PC but onto his HD because he was having problems with his optical drives.

Long story short, it left a entry that I would now like to remove. Here’s what I have from the bootloader entry:

[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=“Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS=“Microsoft Windows XP Professional” /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

The top one is the one I need to remove. I just need to know if all I have to do is edit it out and all is well or if I need to make any other changes.

Hi,

maybe these articles will help:

How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP
Available switch options for the Windows XP and the Windows Server 2003 Boot.ini files
Boot INI Options Reference
The purpose of the Boot.ini file in Windows XP

Michael

Are you sure its the top one you want to remove-this happens when you install xp over xp. What I do is edit out the second one_save and restart your computer . good luck.

Thanks for the help guys, got it right now.:smiley:
