My Tosh laptop has a UJ-820S internal drive and I can only get audio CD rips with EAC at ~ x1 speed.
So, I've thrown an AD-7170S I had spare into a Jou-Jye USB caddy and am using it plugged in via USB.
Rip speed is much better - I can get up to x9 even in secure mode.
However, it seems to have trouble with some tracks on some CDs. For example:
Filename C:\Documents and Settings\ripper\My Documents\My Music\Rips\Borodin String Quartet - Shostakovich- String Quartets 5 & 15 (1987) [FLAC]\04 - String Quartet 15 - I. Elegy (Adagio).wav
Pre-gap length 0:00:07.02
Suspicious position 0:12:02
Peak level 33.0 %
Track quality 99.9 %
Test CRC 2E431496
Copy CRC 2E431496
The track in question is 12:03 long.
I can rip the tracks that fail on the internal UJ-820S perfectly.
I've tried upgrading the firmware (from 1.00 to 1.02RPC1 to 1.03) with no effect.
I've also tried connecting the drive via a sharkoon SATA/USB convertor - again, no effect.
Has anyone else seen anything like this? Is it likely to be a faulty drive?
