AD-5200/7200/7203 as a PI/PIF scanning drive

Let’s see if we can come to some concenus of how these new drives perform a PI/PIF scan. And also see if we can determine a good scanning speed to use.

If you can. Please also post a scan done on the same disc with a Lite-On @4x scanning speed, or a BenQ at 8x scanning speed.

I’ll start it off with a MCC004 burned on the AD-7203.

1, Reference scan on the Lite-On

5, Scan at 16x on AD-7203A

5x and 8x seems to give something useful.

[B]Dee-27[/B], doesn’t your 5x Optiarc scan have that strong rise of errors at the end of the disc, because your Optiarc read in CLV instead of CAV? It looks like [B]NewFish[/B]'s Optiarc 5x scan was CAV and yours 5x CLV. You both did 5x scans of 4482MB on MCC004 discs burned with an AD-7203A 1.01, so it’s a great comparison I guess.

Sorry if this is false and/or a stupid question. If it is, could you please explain why? I don’t know how to force a drive to read in CAV/CLV. Some people use modded firmware. That could be a reason for different reading methods, but I’m just speculating…

I think the 5x CLV you see is really the 4x CLV of the LiteOn drive. Double check the pictures. :wink:

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I checked again and no. Look at these two scans done by [B]Dee-27[/B] and [B]NewFish[/B]. Both 5x Optiarc scans are a full disc, an MCC004 and burned with the AD-7203A.

[B]Dee-27[/B]: A huge rise beginning at 325MB from around 8 max. to around 45 max. PIE.

[B]NewFish[/B]: No rise, but staying absolutely constant at around 8 max.

I think everybody would agree, that finding the reason for having these two completely different results is essential to the sense of this whole project/thread. 5x CLV read speed vs. 5x CAV read speed is my guess, but that could be totally wrong of course.

The difference may be in burn speeds, 8x vs 18x, where the mountain comes in. :iagree:

It’s a bit early to say. But it looks like this drive might be quite suitable for PI/PIF scanning. The results are really not comparable to a Lite-On scan, but still gives useful information. Much more useful than recent Optiarc drives. :slight_smile:

Can please someone tell me which drive is better for burning, looking at my scans, or if you already know which one it is.
Problem is, I only have 7203S and Plextor PX-810SA (Pioneer DVR-212), scans tell me the Plextor is better, but how do I know if I get the correct scans with 7203S@8x.
