About copying the protected DVD

Today I borrowed a DVD from a friend and wanted to copy them for backup. Using some copy DVD software like nero, showing “prohibit copying DVDs, and it can not be read.”
Copy several folders onto the blank DVD-R by force, but they can not be played.
Can’t the protected DVD be copied?

You can try DVD Decrypter, DVD shrink.
