My dvd player WILL play The Girl Next Door, with no problems. It WILL NOT play Hellsing v2 (says error check disk). My DVD player = Toshiba SD-2107.

I went to this page: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers
Found my DVD player, and someone said that the book type must be changed from DVD+R to DVD-ROM. Is this true? If I burn Hellsing v2 again, and change the booktype from DVD+R to DVD-ROM, using the same disc (BenQ 4x DVD+R), should it play on my dvd player? More importantly, how do I change the booktype? The tools I have are DVD shrink and DVD decrypter. I used DVD decrypter to burn Hellsing v2 (select iso, write, locate the mds file)

As you can see above, book type is one of the differences between the two discs. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

PS – my system:

WinXP Pro SP2
Sony DRU-710a
firmware: BYX2

Yep change the booktype to DVD-ROM and it will be more agreeable with your standalone DVD Player, because it sees it like a genuine/original.

More importantly, how do I change the booktype?
Someone will get to that, I wouldnt have a clue:) Try doing a search.

Should work if you use DVD-ROM booktype. As a rule, always convert DVD+R to DVD-ROM for best performance. I believe the Sony is a rebadge Lite On. Someone at the Lite On forum should be able to give you more details about setting booktype with this drive.

here are a couple of links that should answer most of your questions.

Thank you all for the replies!

I used the LiteOn bitsetting utility, but it didn’t work. Once I burned the disc, the booktype was still “DVD+R”

Anything else I can do?

Apparently, you can use the DVD Decrypter Book type option when you burn. Just click the ‘Liteon’ tab and select ‘change for’. According to Videohelp.com this works with the DRU710A.

I am using version 3.5.2. of DVD Decrypter. I don’t see a LiteOn tab anywhere?
I checked the settings and went through all the tabs there as well. Should I download a different version?

right next to “burn speed” there’s a little icon of an open book, click that and voila, bitsetting for all major drive manufacturers is located there.

Thanks. That was quite dumb of me. It worked

My problem seems to be the other way around. My back ups don’t work if the book type is dvd -rom.
