Able to burn cdr but not dvdr with 3500a

Just bought an NEC 3500AG (my first dvdr) and installed it as the slave in the following system.
XP Home sp2
P4 2400
512 ram

I had to reinstall the OS anyway so I installed the new burner when I installed Windows. When installing the OS, it was able to recognise the new burner correctly. It shows up correctly in the hardware manager.

When I tried to burn a CDR it worked flawlessly. However, when I tried to burn a dvd it ran into problems. My test is to simply drag files through windows explorer into the E drive. However, it wouldn’t allow me to drag files into this drive like I can with a CDR. It said “Problem Copying” and quit.

I read this forum thouroughly. I tried:
swapping the drive from master to slave
uninstalling the primary and secondary IDE channels
I tried 2 different types of media(Teon(mag E01) and a Maxel type)

I also downloaded DVD Identifier and it WAS able to recognise the type of DVD I had loaded in the drive.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance
