A revision of the AACS 2.0 copy protection, unofficially referred to as AACS 2.1, makes it impossible to rip 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (UHD BD) discs with all existing tools. The update to the AACS 2.0 copy protection as found on Ultra HD Blu-ray discs has been spotted on the movies Fury and Patriot.

It might be just a little premature to declare this “unbeatable”. Its just new.

I guess it is “unbeatable” until someone “beats” it. They act like saying it is unbeatable will stop anyone trying to crack it. What they don’t realize is they have laid down the gauntlet to all the hackers to prove them wrong. They don’t ever seem to learn from their past errors.

A bit of a dramatic headline.

Though can somebody explain how AACS 2.1 titles will work on existing players without an firmware update. Perhaps that’s the route they are going down.

2.1 is official name.

2.1 is an extension of 2.0 and uses the same key set. So no player firmware update or online connection is required for these discs.
