I have a doubt which may seem a little simple, but it is something I wish to clarify before I choose what to get. I've used external enclosures for hard drives, but never for optical drives.
My question is, if I connect an internal blu-ray drive with an standard USB enclosure for optical drives, will the internal drive be recognized as the same as if it were connected directly? And can I update firmware using standard methods as meant for internal drives? Would the two parts (enclosure and drive) be recognized individually?
For instance I was considering getting the following:
1. Vantec USA NexStar DX External 5.25-Inch Optical Drive Enclosure
2. Pioneer BDR-209DBK-KIT 16X Blu-ray Writer Drive
So, would the computer just see it as a generic optical drive or would it let me update firmware and do stuff specific to the drive model?
