Great post! Thanks!!

You’re very welcome.

I’ll keep adding to it when & if new Start Menu replacements show up.

#4

I didn’t realise the sheer range of Start Menu replacements now, that’s quite a list. :iagree:

It’s coming to the stage where if Microsoft does bring back their Start Menu, it wouldn’t surprise me if they get accused with abuse of monopoly power like the case with bundling Internet Explorer with Windows.

#5

I already got my program for the Start Menu. It is called Windows 7.

#6

I only used Windows 8 Pro for 2 weeks after getting it around mid-November, because of bugs, a certain one, making my HDD show 100% usage while slowing down the system, so I went back to Windows 7 Ultimate.

lmao…your right there is a Windoze that already has start menu and its is built in and integrated with windows. Now why didn’t I realize that before…

All these start menu will be gone with a simple windows8 update least if users of them forget. Also security holes if we forget them as well. Adding more 3rd party tweaks as start menu is also opening up security holes as well. So don’t think M$ will care they will wipe out any start menu programs or disable them and say they are security risk…

I’ve got three more freebies:

Vista Start Menu
Start Menu X
Ex7ForW8

IMHO, the last one is the best of the three. It attempts to port the actual Windows 7 Explorer.exe into Windows 8, thus eliminating Metro, and giving you your old Start Menu back, with all the same options that you had with 7. This process is minimally invasive enough that you can easily reverse it. You’ll need a copy of Windows 7’s Explorer.exe, though.

Please note that, in my experience, Vista Start Menu doesn’t show up in the usual Start Menu area. It does, however, have a tray icon that you could click to open it.

Good luck trying to get any of these programs to work after Blue, which I’m sure is exactly how you will feel after you install it. :flower:

Knowing Microsoft, all of these programs will be blocked, and the devs will need to find new hacks.

Vista Start Menu is only for Windows 2000 up to Windows 7.

Start Menu X is already on the list!

Ex7ForW8 was deprecated by the developer [Tihiy] and replaced with StartIsBack!

True, but in my experience, Vista Start Menu works quite well on 8, although you will have to use the tray as I mentioned.

#11

You’re better off buying StartIsBack, because it basically is the Windows 7 Start Menu!

#12

gracias…

Damn, can’t edit my OP, anyway, here’s a new one:

Added this one to your original post, I hope you don’t mind.
I already got my program for the Start Menu. It is called Windows 7. ;)
I am in agreement with you here UTR…my start menu works and I have yet to see any real substance in going to W8 for everyday computing and my laptop usage. All of which don’t have touch screen but a actual mouse/keyboard functionality.

#17

All these Start menus programs are worthless now that Windows 8.1 will update to boot to the desktop and reinvent the Start Button.

#18

The Start Button is not the same as the Start Menu, because from what I hear all the Start Button will do is launch the stupid useless Start Screen.

I have the beta 8.1 and its back the way it was in Windows 7. Only now you have a choice, just in case you have a touch screen. Microsoft couldn’t stand the fact that these little company’s were making a dime off their OS.
