Yeah, but the NEC manual is what they told the FCC at the time of designing the 1100A, which was originally going to be dual format. However, as the release slipped and the drive changed numbers it would explain why the manual says that… AND… The manual says “can be used” and NOT “can be written” - it lists DVD-ROM and normal CD’s, so it’s just an indication of standard comaptibility… I do like the conspiracy theory though, it would be cool if it turns out to be true!
