A blatantly false online customer review could lead to legal trouble.

[newsimage]http://static.rankone.nl/images_posts/2011/02/8ofs4K.jpg[/newsimage]Customer reviews - thy name is honesty. Or illegal, depending on who you ask. Long a way for everyday consumers to read what similar folks think of a product, customer reviews have become huge. iJunkies can peruse them prior to buying a new app, and it's not uncommon for Amazon buyers to base their spending habits on how well (or poorly) that hot new item was actually received by the discerning public. Disgruntled buyers also use the service to vent their frustrations and offer a word of warning to all others who hazard a 'click to add': beware. It's plain to see why businesses might be uneasy about customer reviews, and some are answering the claim 'the customer is always right' with one of their own: say a mean word, and we'll sue.

Please note that the reactions from the complete site will be synched below.

There’s a fine line between free speech and some corporation screaming “libel”.

I know I’ll never shop there after reading about this.

Just Google ‘paid product reviews’ for the flip side of the coin…

Yes there’s a different between a company hiring people and a persons own opinion. If you can prove a company did just that there should be a law to stop it.But it would have to be proven which lie the answer and what intent the damage has been done.Lawyers field day ka-chink!

Good point teddy…How many companys place great reviews on there own product just to get good sales??? I never buy a product that has 5 stars from the first 20/30 reviewers.

I agree BluRayFreak. Never will I shop from these fruitcakes!

Hey - thanks for the name - FULL HOUSE APPLIANCES

You can rest assured that I WILL NEVER purchase anything from them.

About like “Atomic Overload” on eBay - how silly to block potential customers just because he had his feelings hurt over his exceptionally poor customer service. Just read this guy’s reviews on eBay - if there is any trouble, he gets very ugly…

Someone needs to set up a blacklist on a web site somewhere off shore to properly document these goofs.
