9800 Pro VPU Recover message

Lately, I have been having problems with my Visiontek Xtasy 9800 Pro. At first, I would be playing Call Of Duty online for a while, then the monitor would just go black. Could not hit ctrl+alt+del to bring anything back up. All I could do is restart the system. The system would come back up fine. I never got an error message or anything. Then yesterday, I was playing CoD online, and I got this message, “VPU recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands.” Has anyone ever received this message before?? I am running WinXP Pro SP1, latest NForce2 drivers (from NVidia), latest ATi drivers (Catalyst 3.9 from ATi). The card was pretty hot when this happened. Dont know if it is heat related or not.

I have:
2x80mm intake (front)
2x80mm exhaust (rear)
1x80mm intake (side)
1x80mm exhaust (power supply)
Video card fan (stock)

Please help…I dont know if it is heat related or driver related or if I just have a bad card.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. No overclocking or BIOS flashed have been done to this card.

I have never recieved this error message, but under the display properties advanced setting there is a tab for VPU. There is a check box for “generate error report”, so if this is selected it might give you some useful information.

I will take a look at it when I get home…thanks for the reply!

And … do you know what it was?
Did it occur again or was it a one-time thing?
