8cm disks, HP drive, problems

I am about to buy an mp3 player. As I am intending to get one that plays only 8cm disks I thought it would be a good idea to check that my writer can work with such disks beforehand. I bought 5 cd-rw drives labeled ‘Freecom technologies’. None of them worked; they all failed immediately the drive tried to write to them. Nero did recognize that they were in the drive and told me that they had an available capacity of (around) 200 meg.

The drive is from HP, not sure of the model number, but it is at least 2 years old and has a max speed of 4x. Though slow, it’s always worked okay and I’ve written to 12cm rw disks in the past. My question (finally!) is, is there some software that I need in order to write to these small disks? I’ve looked on the HP site, but it is useless (surprise surprise).

Any help appreciated.

Anyone know anything about 8cm cdrw disks?
