812s (US0N) errors out burning @ 4x on -R...(long error code/message inside)

Running a 812S, which I just flashed today to the updated/adjusted US0N. However this problem existed with F and J as well.

Problems only arise when attempting to burn at 4x. I can burn at 2x all day.

I am using DVD Shrink 3.1. I am attempting to burn to a 4x rated Sony (SONY04D1) DVD-R. Previously, I had burned these same Sony +R discs at 8x on my old 451S@851S without fail.

I have also tried using Newegg branded RITEKG04 discs and have gotten the same result. After flashing to US0N today, I did burn 2 of these and they did complete fine. However, for whatever reason, my set top DVD player does not recognize them. I have burned these same discs @ 2x with no problems playing them.

This last time, it errored out before burning began, yet the disc is now a coaster. Previously it had errored out around 80%, then once it faked me out and went all the way to 100% before it failed writing the lead-out.

I can burn some REAL generic +R’s (don’t even have a media code) without problems @ 4x. Using bitsetting, they play great on the comp and the set top player.

Any help is appreciated!

Also, I keep finding I have to register over and over again (this is the 3rd time). I register, activate, post, then come back the next day and I’m unable to post?

I noticed how the message said DMA was off. I downloaded and installed the latest nForce2 drivers. Now my hardware settings show the combo drive at UDMA3 and the dvdrw at UDMA2.

The early versions of Nero 6 are also known for bugs…

Try UPDATE.

Thanks Pinto. Will do. I guess that is the common denominator, as the burn that completed but wouldn’t play on the set top last night using DVD-X-Copy also used the Nero burn engine. I’ll update it tonight and see how it goes and report back.

I’m really thinking I should never have gotten rid of the 451s@851s :frowning:

Still no luck! This time I used DVDShrink to make an iso, which I then tried to burn directly using Nero.

Hello, I have the same (or very similar) problem too.

LiteOn SOHW 812S USON as slave on secondary IDE channel.
Abit NF7-S, nForce IDE 4.24 installed.

I do believe that the problem is 812S itself, not the hardware or drivers around.

I can perfectly burn almost any DVD+R even the such like Gigamaster on 4x, with acceptable levels of P1 and P0 errors, well readable.

The problem occurs with DVD-R where I can only burn 2x to burn reliably.
Occasionaly I got good DVD-R on 4x without problems, but usually 2 of 3 media are bad in this case.(I’m not trying it anymore)

I got the same result for Verbatim 4x DVD-R as for Infotech 4x DVD-R (very cheap media but not so bad). Even readable media cannot be usually tested by CDSpeed 3.0 to the end, because close to the end it cannot be read more than 5x speed.
Sometimes I cannot also do the leadin or leadout on DVD-R.

I haven’t tried different hardware config yet, but DVD+R burns perfectly.

812s is not a very good -R burner. I would say, worse than my 451s@851s, which I think is not that bad at all. I rarely have coasters writing -R with my 451s@851s. But with 812s, the percentage is rather high. Rubbing it in, am I, Lanikai? :stuck_out_tongue:

812s is ok with +R. Stick with +R. :wink: :slight_smile:

Yes I agree i just got a 812s and a pack of 25 ritek g04s… and 4/5 i just burnt in the last hour are ****ed…

i would say -Rs suck for the 812s… .cause i burnt the one +R i had and burnt PERFECT and kprobe turned me on LOL it was a nice scan… whereas the -Rs all had spikes all over the place reaching 200 in P0 and are unreadable :frowning:

Hello, maybe I got something…

I discovered that my machine can’t usually supply the 5,5 MB/s stream which is demanded by 4x DVD writing mode without interruptions. Then buffer underrun protection comes into play … yellow blinking LED.

And while it seems that it doesn’t affect the DVD+R, probably because strategy of rejoining the interrupted burn is correct on 812 for DVD+R, it heavily affects DVD-R (where maybe the strategy is not so good).

My machine can’t supply the 5,5 MB/s due to various other loads on HDD (ftp, downloading etc…). But the 2 MB/s is not a problem so I don’t have problems with DVD-R on 2x.

I tried to burn DVD-R 4x on with disabled ftp and it was fine, very similar in Kprobe to the 2x. I need further testing, one test doesn’t proof anything.

Also when I eject the tray on my CDRW which is master on the IDE cable where 812 is slave, then buffer underrun protection also activates.

Also when I’m trying to access empty CD-R I’m getting yellow blinking on DVDRW, maybe some other activities on PC affect it too.

Mine has nothing to do with buffer underuns… i believe the media quality for g04s is extremely low

I would suggest you uninstall DVDXCOPY from your pc. It sounds like a software problem. DVDXCOPY is known to have conflicts with other software. I don’t know why people use it when their is free software to use in backing up dvds like DVD SHRINK & DVD DECRYPTER.

I would then suggest you uninstall it again (DVDXCOPY) then uninstall NERO BURN and use the NERO CLEAN TOOL. Then reinstall the NERO BURN. Some people have had to do those steps to get things right. Here is the link for the NERO CLEAN TOOL: http://www.nero.com/us/631940828445001.html

sorry to hear that ,but my liteon 812s with latest USON firmware don’t make any coaster with dvd -r!
i burned many cheaped media dvd+ and dvd- like princo , longten…,diva (no code),sundisk…and every burnd i made it was succes.
here some example!
i had them test with my standalone player EBODA 2120S and works fine , no pixelize ,no slowdawns!!!

Well, I’m on a fresh install of everything (new hard drive). 6.3.1.10 of Nero, Current version of DVDShrink, DVDXCopy is not installed and never was.

Now, the Sony’s won’t even burn at 2x. I was able to burn some GQ -R’s from Fry’s ok at 2x (can’t remember their media code right now), and the generic azz +R’s still burn like champs @ 4x. My 451@851 burned these Sony’s like champs though @ 4x.

Where can I get some good quality (preferably 8x capable) +R media that won’t break the bank? Cuz I think my best bet is just to stick with +R.
