812S mod ideas

  1. It seems so far from what I’ve been seeing that the 812 mod is just replacing the 451/851 FW with the 812 FW.
  2. If this is the case, then instead of relying on the Polish site’s mods, would it be possible to get a LDW851FP.EXE equivalent for the 812? A “SOHW812FP.EXE” that disables the EEPROM check (and flips on 8x for 4x on select media types). (the benefit being that you’ll be working directly from the official FW release)
  3. If #2 is possible, then I wonder if the 851 and 812 FWs are similar enough that it’d be possible to use LDW851FP.EXE to patch the official 812 firmware.

Any thoughts/experiences regarding the above?

As I’ve stated before, team Zebra should still be working on a proper mod as we speak.
I will let everyone know when I hear more.

Yes, I know, but I was feeling rather whimsical today (okay, and a little bored, too :slight_smile: ), so I ended up giving #3 a try.

The flash was successful. Drive was recognized, etc. Reads fine. Couldn’t burn DVDs (hmm, big oops), though. So I flashed it back to GS0F. Great thing was, Nero stopped me before I turned any of my discs into coasters, so I didn’t lose any discs.
