I noticed last night that my 812S w/ USOJ is now ripping DVD-Video at 12X!

I thought 8X was the max for this drive.

Pressed dual layer, +RW, -RW, +R, -R are limited to 8x.

Pressed single layer is 12x, regardless of type (-ROM or -Video). (Yes, this does mean that the readhacking page has some misinformation… oops :o)

Shouldn’t a 16X -ROM drive be able to rip -ROM (DVD-5) at 16X? What am I missing here!? I thought the limitation on DVD Video rip speed was due to CSS.

Is the 812S a 12X drive?

/too lazy to look up specs

Reads at a max of 12x.

I don’t think CSS has an effect on reading speed… well, when I had accidentally bumped dual-layer ripping to 16x on my combo drive, and it was ripping fine… well, at least until it got past a certain speed, at which point, it failed not due to CSS, but due to unrecoverable CRC errors (dual layer DVD9 was never meant to be read at 16x CAV… oops).
