811s vs. 812s - Writing Quality

Just got my 812s today and updated to US0N and have my 811s with HS0Q. Burned the included dvd+r that came with 812s at 8x with media code:

Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:YUDEN000-T02-000]

Disc Type : [DVD+R]
Manufacturer ID : [YUDEN000]
Media Type ID : [T02]
Product Revision : [Not Specified]
Disc Application Code : [General Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [2.4x - 4x - 8x]
Blank Disc Capacity : [Not Supported By Method 2]

Anyway, the kprobe differences are incredible and was trying to figure out which one to trust. I also find it odd that the 812s reported no PO errors at all. I was also too lazy to wait and scan the whole disc, but I scanned roughly the same amount of the disc with both drives. More testing to follow.

Oh and in the 812s scan pic, kprobe reports no media no disc because I saved the pic after I ejected the disc.

I hope that you don’t expect half of a single disc to be a good representation of each burner…

Ok, here’s the full scan on each burner of the same discs. The second image from 811s has been adjusted on the y-axis to get an idea of the lower values.

#4

In fact, it reported C1/C2
I wouldn’t be that much concerned about comparing the scans done on different burners. I’d be more concerned about high error values in the beginning (4x phase, I think) reported by both drives. And again, this is just the first burn.

I’m burning some Ricohjpnr01 right now at 4x. The stock US0N won’t even allow this media at 8x whereas HS0Q does. Hmm… I will post back results of this one, and then maybe a speedhacked burn too.

You might also want to try using Kprobe on the same burner, the 812 is known to be better at ready thus rendering it less accurate…

#9

I was reading the discs burnt with the 812s in both the 811s and 812s. My tests were to try and make some conclusive evidence as to which of the two is more accurate at reporting errors. I know the title of my post is kind of misleading…

i will post these evening (for me… :)) my results. You will see a dvd+r (emtec ricohjprn001) made with my 411@811 and tested with kprobe, then the same disk tested with my brand new 812. The results are day/nigth…
