811s troubles after firmware update

Hello,

I updated my LDW-811s from HSOE to HSOP.
Everything seemed fine, but when I tried to burn a new DVD-R, it failed every time.
Before, it worked fine. I had only some problems with reading them one a kiss DP-1000. That’s why I tried to solve this problem with a firmware update.

So I switched back to HSOE, but the problem still remains.

I use Nero burning ROM 6
Win XP sp1

I even see white spikkles on the surface of this disc. Don’t know if they where there already.

Does anyone have a suggestion to get it back to work?
I just re-installed Nero, so I shall try again.

Thx

Could you scan again at 4x (no max checked) and 8ECC please then post back.

Nice PI/PO

Remarks:

  1. After 27 minutes writing with Nero at 2X, it sais:“Burn process failed” When I look in explorer at the disc, it seems empty.

  2. In explorer: The drive is named as:“Cd-rom-station”
I though that before the firmware update, it said:“Dvd/Cd-rom-station”

Have you ever had success with this exact same media?

Looks like perhaps you have some fake Maxell ID’d discs…

From this thread.
“Sold as ICE WHITE 2X DVD-R and have Maxell ID, but is produced in Hong Kong by a factory using fake maxell ID’s.”

It appears you wouldn’t be the first person to get horrible results with these discs.

Yes, The first one I burned of this media was fine. After that, I updated the firmware and you know the result

I have bought a DVD-RW so I can try more with one disc. But is it possible that my drive kills the disc (Cfr, white spikkles on the other one)?

thx

I edited the above post. Have a look.

rdgrimes has smilar issues within the same spindle of RG01’s he was using as well. Try a disc from the middle of the spindle and see if results vary.

You are burning these at 2x as well right?

Yes, max speed is 2X.

They have indeed a white surface. The name Maxell isn’t mentioned on the disc itself.
Damn, this sux

I shall try the memorex dvd-rw later and report the results.

Thx

Smartburn:
Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD-R (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 4D 58 4C 20 52 47 (MXL RG)
Disc TID = 30 31 00 00 00 00 (01…)
Nominal Capacity = 4.12GB
Manufacturer Maybe = Maxell
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 2.0X (Write)

Hi,

I just tried with another brand of media, and still the same : Burn process failed

Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD-RW (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 50 72 6F 64 69 73 (Prodis)
Disc TID = 63 44 56 44 52 57 (cDVDRW)
Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB
Manufacturer Maybe = Prodisc Technology Inc.
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 1.0X (Write)

I already re-installed nero.

  • I am going to re-install the drive (I already tried, but who knows)
  • Chance Firmware into HSOK

Others suggestions?

Thx

Have you tried a differnt burning application yet?
RecordNow should have came bundled with the drive (it some cases you have to manually browse the Sonic CD to find it).

Also, have a look at this.

Although last time the disc burnt properly (finished), it just had high error rate so I don’t think it’s the same problem.

Do a search for “session fixation error” as other people have had it before.

Not yet. I am searching the disc at the moment.

Before I changed the firmware, nero worked fine. I already re-installed it. I ve got no idea.

I let you know the results.

There is no way to force it to burn at 1x that I know of for sure.

BTW, you can´t fit 4,38GB on a 4,12GB disk… (ref. to your prev. post)

I wrote a CD-r with nero without any problems

I used the same dvd-rw as in a previous post, and burned an XVID (less time) with Sonic RecordNow DX. Burn process was successfull, but:

I performed Kprobe at 1X, cause the dvd-rw was also burned at 1X

BTW, you can´t fit 4,38GB on a 4,12GB disk… (ref. to your prev. post)

The same media, but unused:

Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD-R (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 4D 58 4C 20 52 47 (MXL RG)
Disc TID = 30 31 00 00 00 00 (01…)
Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB
Manufacturer Maybe = Maxell
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 2.0X (Write)

The other one was after burning. Probably that disc was to f****d up to read it to the end. Mayby that’s why he said the nominal capacity is only 4.12 GB

Trebbel, I think we all got confuzed…

-When you post “media info” you should post info of EMPTY disk.

-When posting Kprobe scans, add relevant info TO the scan.
All scans @ 4X speed, 8ECC.!

  • This is realy BAD media, try to get something better, please…

I never was able to burn a Maxell DVD-R disc with my 811S.

And about ProDisc DVD-R (that means MMore): looks like 811S is highly incompatible with it. From the pack of 10 I was only able to successfully burn only 2 discs… :frowning:

Stick to DVD+R media - I was able to make very good burns @ 8X with TDK, Memorex, Philips and Traxdata, and @ 4X, good burns with Sony, Emtec (BASF) and Verbatim.

Edited: typos…

Hi,

I unplugged my second HD and cd-writer, cause the write problem could be caused by my PSU.
Then, I bought DVD+R media from Fujifilm and burned it with Nero.
Guess what, the damn thing finally works! :iagree:

I really had no idea the media could be so important.

Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD+R (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 52 49 43 4F 48 4A 50 4E (RICOHJPN)
Disc TID = 52 30 31 (R01)
Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB
Manufacturer Maybe = Ricoh Company Limited
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 8.0X (Write)

The PI is a bit high, not?
Po looks fine.

Thx guys

@pinto2: I’m newby on the K-probe issue, but I will remember it.:wink:

Second burn with the fujifim DVD+R

Even better!

What would have caused the higher PI in the previous burn?
Bad luck?

Lite on should improve the dvd- writing quality.
Or the dvd- manufacturers maxell and prodisc should be ashamed for selling such a lousy quality discs.
