811S now on liteonit's site

http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/english/new_p_e/english--p-drw8440.htm

Anyone seen these in the stores yet?

Anyone actually got one?

Be nice if the firmware could be used in the 411s, even if it was only to improve media compatability :expressionless:

See the following link regarding some preliminary info on the 811S. There is even a link for downloading the firmware:

Ah cool thanks.

I wonder if the drive is recoverable if the attempt at writing this firmware on the 411s fails…

DVD+R 8x ( 10800KB/sec ) by CLV

This will be interesting to see…is the drive really 8X CLV? Then it will be the first as the plex is 8X Z-CLV.

Other info found: No it do not write at 8X to 4X media. 8X certified media is required.

Yes, it’s already available for end users in South Korea…

Mmmmm…

Will the CLV write method improve the write quality or speed?

Probably only the speed.

Man, I think we’ll see the same threads concerning some kind of convertion now that 811s is out…

Just prepare for it…

Thanks for the info OC-Freak.
Out of curiousity, how does that compare with the media codes in the firmware of the 411s?
Also the drive is going to be available in the UK in a couple of days for about £125

Everyone here have problems with the LDW-411s which writes at
4x and you are talking about the new 8x drive?

I don’t think that’s a good idea.

I prefer to buy a working one 1x drive than to have such an
unstable DVD burner like LiteOn’s.

And my friends, the media is not an excuse!

I don’t know if you buy the DVD burners with your parents money
but I don’t. And by the time my boss have demands from me in my
work, as a customer I have demands from LiteOn’s guys to give
me an ACCEPTABLE product.

I worked this 200 euros it costs the LDW-411s in Greece and I
have all the rights to make complaints for their failure to give us
a good product.

So be patient to read some reviews first for this so called 8x drive
than to ask when it will ship in the stores.

That’s my opinion.

So I guess I’m everything but everyone. Huh…

You have problem with cheap media doesn’t mean nobody can’t burn any 4X Media. Period.

Now I agree that there are problems. But this kind of reaction is somewhat exagerated IMHO.

am i wrong?

Well, at least I do NOT experience any problem burning @4X on DVD-R using 411s.
