First. I'd like to thank you all for your replies. My computer is not the best, but I think it is still holding it's own. I have a P4 1.6 gig with 512RDRAM. Its and older Intel 845GB board and an Intel Chipset. My drives are all 7200 rpm and Two of them have the 8meg cache. I dont know if the Video card matters with this but I have an Nvidia fx 5200 256DDR mem.
Anyway. I used to use DVDXopy until I got fed up wth bad burns. I thought it was either my computer or the media. I really thik that DVDXCopy is at the bottom of the backup software apps. I now used DVDSHRINK exclusivley. I have not had a problem since. Not one. BUT, this is important. DVDSHRINK suggests the use of copy2dvd. Don't do it. I think the whole culprit to my problem is the Patin Coffin software it installs. It installs itself with both DVDXCOPY and COPY2DVD. Once these were installed on my box, the 811s wouldn't recognize one cd or dvd. Blank or pre-made. Real or backup. Nothing. I even re-installed WindowsXP Pro, thinking that I must have corrupted a driver. When I re-installed Copy2DVD, it went dead again! I deleted it, restarted the computer and now the 811s is running like a champ. I use DVDSHRINK and NERO to burn my DVD back-ups. I really do not know if this is what really did it, all I know is that the 811s is working again with no problems. The only tinkering I did with it was to install the HSOP firmware. I don't have the nerve to mess around with unauthorized "upgrades". As for my sticky mouse....I dont really know, I hear that bong, bong, bong, (don't get funny) in the background of windows every now and then like the sound you hear when you unplug a usb cable (the mouse is usb). I don't know whats causing in it. One problem at a time. The mouse is old though, it may be time to upgrade. Its an intellimouse with intellieye 1.0 - a dinosaur.
Simplelife - sorry if you took that wrong about the 4x being turtlelike. I got used to my CD burner running at 52x without a hitch. No harm intended. Thank you all again for the help. This forum is great. I hope I can help sometime.
Oh, P.S. - Every 8x DVD+R I've tried to burn now or before this debacle is a coaster.
