811s burning speeds with ATA33

Hi,

should I be able to burn 8x with the 811s on an older Intel system with Ultra DMA 2 (ATA33), max 33MB/s?

On my system, I can only burn up to 6x, 8x constantly invokes BurnProof…

Using HD-Tach, I get a minimum transfer rate of 20MB/s for the installed harddrive, which should be plenty. Interface speed maxes at 28MB/s. Both devices have their own IDE channel, so I don’t see why the 11MB/s needed for 8x burning should be a problem. CPU is at 20% or so…

burning proggie is Nero 6.3.

Thanks,

Michael

The maximum supported transfer rate for the LDW-411/811 is ATA33 so on newer computer they will still run in ATA33 mode

So yes it should be fast enough - just remember to turn on DMA in your operating system or else it will be as slow as you said…

So what could it be? Both the burner and the drive show UDMA 2 in device manager, and as I said I can transfer data with 20MB/s from the drive…
