How can I tell that I'm using the proper 80-pin cable for my burners?
Take a look here
Ok cool. So if my hard drive cable and optical drive cable look the exact same, and my HDD is running at UDMA mode 5, then I should be ok?
Yes, UDMA-5 is ok for a HDD
Well it's my burners I want the good cable for.
Actually, screw it, they can't be that much money, and I'm buying a new burner soon from ncix.com, so I may as well toss one on my order.
A new cable will not hurt
You can also get a round one, to make a cleaner assembly in your case
personally id avoid rounded cables as they can be hit and miss. Miss was my case. Stick with flat regular ones if you arent really pushed for space. Do a search for 'rounded IDE cables' and see what turns up in the forum.
I thought they were 80 wire 40 pin cables.
They are. I messed up.
Thank you. I ordered a few standard flat ones. I did some research on the round ones and came up with mixed results. Plus, the flat ones were cheap so no harm in having some extra 80 conductor cables lying around in case I need them. Turns out I'm using 80 conductor for the hard drives and 40 for the optical drives right now. That's about to change...
