I'm been doing some testing with my 7200A and the following media:
- 16X Verbatim DVD-R: MCC 03RG20 (made in Taiwan)
- 16X Verbatim DVD-R: MCC 03RG20 (made in India)
- 16X Verbatim DVD+R: MCC 004 (made in Taiwan)
I know the 7200A isn't the best scanner, but from what I've read here, I can still use it to scan discs that were burned by itself. I don't have another DVD burner.
I used the Create Disc in CD-DVD Speed 220.127.116.11 to burn each of the 3 types of media at 12X, and then ran TRT, Disc Quality (using 1ECC at 5X and Max Speed), and Scan Disc tests. All of the TRT tests looked smooth, and all the Disc Quality tests had scores between 90 and 95. But all of the Scan Disc tests showed a little bit of yellow, and even the Taiwan DVD-R showed a few red blocks.
I've seen people say that if they see one yellow block in the Scan Disc, then they will trash the disc. So I decided to use Create Disc again and burn all 3 types of media at 8X to see if the results would be any better. The DVD-R discs were better at 8X, getting scores around 95 for Disc Quality and also showing completely green in the Scan Disc tests. But the DVD+R was worse at 8X, as the Disc Quality score was 84, and it even showed some red blocks in one of the Scan Disc tests. I'm not a CD-DVD speed expert, but that DVD+R burn seems bad to me. What do you think? Here are the screenshots for the DVD+R burned at 8X.
