Is anyone aware of any new fandangle copy protections available?

Such as -not being able to read the cd at all-

This is an original cd (my own) I just want to listen to the damn thing and it won’t even let me do that, heh…

I’ve updated the latest firmware but no good, the burner just spins up and down and eventually crashes windows. (xp pro)

I am listening to it through Winamp 2.81 right now on my LTR-52246S which currently has 6S08 on it…

I don’t think that there’s any protection on this disk.

Try another CD-ROM. If it doesn’t work, then it’s probably the cd itself.

Although my burner is 48246S, I also don’t think there’ s any copy protection on the Meteora cd. I bought it and copied w/o any problems using CloneCD and the Multimedia Audio selection.

I’m using R526S0D.zip firmware…

I just d/l it before from the liteon site and updated the firmware : \

I also cannot read the Metoera CD on my workstation. I can view a couple of mpeg videos but no songs, I wonder how I can listen to this CD I bought?

  1. Try the CD on your conventional CD player, portable or deck, and see if it works. If it doesn’t, then you got a bad CD. Exchange it.

  2. Flash your Lite-On w/ BIN firmware using MTKFlash, instead of the official .zip/.exe firmware from Lite-On TW. Go here for all the info you’ll need for flashing.

  3. If that still doesn’t work, you probably have too much junk installed on your system. Clean install. Don’t take it personally, but you’ll be surprised how much junk people install on their system on weekly basis.

Yeah… I wish I had a dvd writer, then I can backup the OS and software on 3-4 disc and restore like every month… I can just feel my computer getting slower by the day, it feels like I just bought a new one whenever I decide to format, just wish it’d stay that way…

2 words - Hard Drive.

Upon reading the title of this thread, my first thought was “that’s no big loss!”

I hate Linkin Park. Angry white boy music- like Papa Roach, Mudvayne, Taproot, Limp Bizkit, etc etc etc etc. Repeat ad nauseum.

Now now, MuDvAyNe are in a different class here. Much better than the others IMO.

Hard Drive isn’t a solution because every HD i buy, it fills up with new divx movies in a matter of weeks =
I have 190gb of hd space right now, and its 90% full already… i really need a dvd rw… but they’re too expensive for me right now…

My Liteon Burner also won’t read “linkin park - meteora” (original), but my Liteon DVD-Rom read it fine.

I made a copy with CloneCd and the Burner has no problem reading it but I can’t get the original to work.
The Burner trys to read the disc for a bit and then thinks the drive is empty, but one time the “xtras” Folder flashed on the screen(in window explorer) for a second.

It’s all very strange!

My Burner is: Lite-On LTR-40125W Firmware: WS0B
My DVDROM: Lite-On / JLMS XJ-HD165H Firmware: CH11
My OS: WinXP SP1

I don’t think the problem is software on my system because why would the copy work and not the original?

I live in Australia and I assume warcom does to (.au), I mention this because record labels have tested their “new fandangle copy protections” in the smaller markets before.
So it possible Aussie discs have copy protection and US discs don’t.

But if it is a copy protection system, it’s apparently not a very good one.

I suggested hard drive so you can ghost your OS, not for backing up your warez, illegal divx movies, and free porn, that’s what DVDs are for.

BTW, my Meteora CD (w/ the DVD) works perfectly on all my portable CD players (3), DVD players (4), and optical drives (5). Got no prob ripping it to MP3 w/ EAC either. I suspect you folks w/ the prob bought one w/ defect.

Not my style of music either but - if he asked your opinion on it the subject would have different genius. Hmm if I could pick bad music taste or bad reading comprehension, I’d take the bad music taste…
