Does anyone with either of these machines live in the U.S. and have digital cable?
I'd like to know if the player is able to change the channels of a cable box, digital or otherwise, or simply takes what it's given, and you have to change the cable channel yourself.
I really like my current setup, with two different TiVo machines feeding into my 5005, but it's getting to be a pain where burning the DVDs is concerned.
I'm used to just recording on VHS and then being done with it, but with the setup I have now, not only do I have to record shows once, I then have to RE-record them onto DVD.
TiVo has DVD recorders similar to the 5045 and 5026, and they "flash-feed" the recordings to disc (much faster than real time), but they allow no editing.
If you've programmed the TiVo to record a bit before the show starts and a bit after, just to "make sure" (channels with odd start and end times), you can end up with a recording that exceeds the capacity of the disc (or two shows that do, in two hour mode).
The TiVo refuses to let you edit, and it just burns what it has to a disc. Over the disc's capacity? It makes you put in a second disc...even for five minutes.
This is why I won't get a TiVo with DVD recorder.
Do the LiteOn hard drive units allow you to edit content before buring to disc, and do they record to DVD from the hard drive in real time, or at high speed?
