48125W replacement

Hi folks. Today I bought a 48125W, but it’s goosed!

The damn tray won’t close, I’ve tried various firmware, IDE positions, powering down etc etc etc.

Now, the shop where I got the drive has some 48125S drives. Should I be better taking one of them? Apart from the firmware, what’s the difference? CAV, CLV or what? :slight_smile:

I really don’t give a damn about making my drive any faster than 48X but I do like the idea of CAV or P-CAV. Mt Rainier is also important - I take it the ‘S’ drive will be able to support this?

Any feedback would be most welcome :slight_smile:

The flash memory controller is the only thing that differs between the S and the W.
Both are identical otherwise. If it was indeed faulty from the beginning, then take it back and get a 5S (or 6S if they have one), with latest firmware it does it all, CAV P-CAV Mt Rainier :slight_smile:

Don’t even doubt of getting a RMA. The drives in principle are identical.

Thanks guys. It would be cool to get a 6S but they don’t have them.
