451s>851s 8x?

vbimport

#1

Hi,
I recently flashed my 451s to 851s using the speedhacked gs0f firmware and use the latest nero. My prob is that it only allows for 4x on dvd+r with smartburn turned off. The drive functions and burns fine at 4x. Any suggestions?
Appreciate the help…

What media are you using? What is the media code? (download SmartBurn from the LiteOn site, run it, and read the MID and TID that it gives you).

#3

OK,
This is what it gives me. Its smartburn limit is 4x, but even with smartburn off, it does the same…

  Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD+R (Single Layer)
      Disc MID = 43 4D 43 20 4D 41 47 00 (CMC MAG.)
      Disc TID = 46 30 31 (F01)

Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB
Manufacturer Maybe = CMC Magnetics Corporation
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 4.0X (Write)

Okay. How did you speedhack it?

By default, CMCMAGF01 is not one of the codes that gets patched by my patcher (this is because CMC’s media quality is generally not very good, so most people don’t try 8x on it). Did you edit the patcher’s configuration to patch this media code? Or did you not use the patcher at all and just used terminal’s pre-patched firmware?

If you used my custom speedhacked firmware, you’re CMC MAG. F01 discs should burn at 8x. However, I cannot guarantee an error-free burn that will be readable in all standalones as CMC Magnetics discs are renowned for their poor quality.

String:
“CMC MAG”, “F01”, 0x01, 0b11110

…“varying quality”, I would say…

That is maybe much worse, because one disc works perfectly with beautyful K-Probe and another gives up in 10% with CIRC ERROR…

Not recommended media!

OK,
I used Terminal’s hacked firmware to flash to 851. Using Nero 6.3.1.6, And going to the drive select, it tells me that my burner will only do 4x, but it reports as 851s. Even with smartburn off, will the disc still limit nero? I would at least like to know if my drive will do 8x before I buy 8x discs.
Thanks

This is interesting. Tell me more… Do you have any other media that you could try putting in?

And which version of terminal’s FW did you use? 1.0.0 or 1.0.1?

#9

All I got are Maxell and Memorex media, both cert’d for 4x. I don’t which I used, but I’ll try to find the forum.

Sorry My mistake guys, I used code65536’s firm, and I got it from page 5 of

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=83380&perpage=25&highlight=851s%20speedhack&pagenumber=1

#11

Oh. The firmware that I released in that thread hacked only a few firmwares (RICOHJPNR01, RITEKR02, and MCC002). If you use that firmware, then all other 4x-rated media that didn’t have one of those 3 codes will burn at 4x, not 8x. If you want to enable 8x burning for your 4x CMC MAG F01, you’ll have to patch your firmware using my tool (you’ll have to add the following line to the +R/W section of config.pl…)

[ “CMC MAG”, “F01”, 0x00, 0b00110, 0b11110 ],

Alternatively, you could use terminal’s FW. His FW used my tool to enable 8x burning for a whole host of 4x media.

Where might I find terminal’s Fw?

Alright!
Hey Code… You Rock!
Thanks again.

I’m using the speedhack with ALL of the speed updates–downloaded newest version from Terminalvelocd.

However, I still can’t burn CMC AF1 at 8x. These are Memorex branded 4x.

Using dvd identifier, I get the following info from a blank dvd:

Why am I not able to burn at 8x? I don’t have it as an option in Nero.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, in case it matters, I have a 451s->851s using Terminalvelocd’s GS0F firmware and everything else is fine.

#16

You’re using a 851 or 451@851. The 851 is a 8x +R, 4x -R drive. Speedhacking the burn speed up to 8x will not allow 8x burning. Speedhacking the media code up to 8x will allow 8x burning only if you’re using a 812S or a U18A.

Edited post.

Wanted to add attachment… but still not working 100%
Here we go anyway.

From what I can see this is DVD-R media…

And your drive can´t burn them @ 8X…
No matter what you do.

Sorry, but thats the fact right now.

EDIT-2: I see, I have been beaten by code65536.

Thanks for the quick reply guys—that was an easy answer!
