Hi Guys,

I have an LG 4160, Nero 6.6.0.6 an a couple of cakes of Samaung 8X media ( OPTODISCOR8).

When I try to burn a DVD video or data onto one it get as far as verifying and then the drive stalls. The drive fail to read the disc. I have tried a few discs and a few differend senarios eg DVD video and DVD copy.

THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS WITH OTHER BRANDS (TDK and VERBATIM).

When I eject he disc and try to read it in my Asus 616 it fails to read also.

IS SUSPECT THE DISCS BECAUSE…

  1. It only happens with the SAMSUNG Optodisc 008
  2. The disc is unreadable in my Asus too.

Any comments?

Oh, I should mention my Firmware is A302

And I was burning at 4x

#3

OMG! - I just tried an 8X burn and it worked!

I’ll try a few more

I can now confirm that…
4120B + OPTODISCOR8 + nero 6.6.0.6 @ 4X = Borked
4120B + OPTODISCOR8 + nero 6.6.0.6 @ 8X = WORKING!!! and verifiy OK.

sorry no PIE POE scans, I have no LT, BENQ or Plex

#5

Why not a transfer rate scan instead?

#6

Can you derive useful information from that?
I’ll post on up soon.

#7

Transfer rate tests are always useful. If there are other background tasks, it might affect the write graph. Since the drive needs to read at high speeds, the IDE channels better be monopolized by the reading drive alone. TR tests are quite like real-world experiences.

#8

OK.
Here we go

1st is Samsung OPTODISC OR8 at 8X

2nd is Verbatim MCC03 at 2.4X

The strange thing is in Nero during the VERIFY stage the Optodisc was read MUCH faster (about 7 or 8X).

Maybe Nero CD/DVD speed is broken too?

Hm. Optodisc is very slow.

#10

Yes, but ONLY in Nero CD/DVD Speed program.

Here is an Optodisc in Nero verify stage…

Very strange…

I can’t remember if there was a DVD+R/DVD-R media read at under 10x (max.) speed in my GSA-4163/5163. Of course, DVD-RAM 5x media is read at 5x and DVD-RAM 3x at 3x.

#12

/me shrugs…

I don’t really care. I’ve just ordered 50 X Datasafe (8x) DVD+R MCC 003.

I’ll use to those for backup and the Samsungs for unimportant stuff.

#13

Damn you all

I’ve just gone out and bought a Lite-on DVD-ROM.

You can expect some media quality tests on the Samsungs and some other brands over the coming days…
