Welcome to CDF.

I use Silicon Iamge PCI controllers cards.
3114 - 2 Port SATA
3512 - 4 Port SATA

As well as a PCIe 3132 - 2 Port SATA.

I experience no problems in any respect with regards to ODD’s.
Such drives include.
Device Description
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223F
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7203S
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-215L
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H62N
LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1S
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203N

However your motherboard controller may present some problems.
So to be safe, post your motherboard details.

If you are using IDE Extended in the BIOS, so non-raid.
It should be OK for you to use SATA ODD’s.
You may have to un-install nForce & install MS drivers.
