Been having a lot of 'fun' trying out different ways to rip and encode 3D blurays as half SBS, thinking I could put them in plex and play through my xbox one. But I'm having trouble getting them to display properly.
In theory, plex should just treat them like normal 1080p 2D movies, showing the two images side by side. Then I'd use my TV's 3D button to go into SBS mode to make the 3D work. That works for all three movies I I've encoded so far on my PS3, PS4, plex web player and windows plex app. But not on Xbox one's plex app.
Frozen I backed up the entire disc using MakeMKV. I then used BD3D2MKV3D to encode it as a half SBS. On an Xbox one, it only shows one image - like it is taking the left half of the screen and stretching it to fill the screen. So not side by side.
The Lego movie I used AnyDVDHD in the background, then ripped and encoded directly from the disc using BDtoAVCHD. Same result on the xbox - just a normal full screen picture
Jurassic Park I backed up the disc using MakeMKV, and used BD Rebuilder to encode (after some help from Kerry and JDobbs to get a custom setting for MKV Half SBS - thanks guys). this movie does play back correctly on an xbox one - side by side images.
I'm at a loss why these are being treated differently by the xbox one plex client. Are there any video analysing tools I can use to check what differences there might be, eg in the metadata?
