3550A does not read DVDs and I get "Power calibration error"

I have a NEC DVD/RW 3550A that has been working fine for about three months now. However, the other day when trying to copy files from a burnt DVD I got an error message (that I don’t remember, unfortunately) and the copy process stopped. Since then the DVD unit doesn’t recognize commercial DVD records any more, and all “home” burnt DVD’s are blank according to the computer (wxp). Only CDs are identified correctly.

When I try to burn a DVD I get a “Power calibration error”

I have tried to uninstall/reinstall the DVD, but that did not fix it.

Any suggestions?

Try it in another computer, maybe the DVD part is damaged.

If it is, RMA the drive.
