I am currently using Memorex 16x DVD+R and after the burn when I go to My Computer to see the files, instead of it remaining as DVDRW it turns to CD drive.
It can read regular CD, movie DVD and can also burn CD without problems. I just cant read them. Its either the media or problem with the burning or reading process.
Any suggestions?

Memorex is cheap media anyways.
I tested the memorex dvd on another drive and it works. I also tried using verbatim and works on the other drive, but does not work on the 3550. Seems to me that it has trouble reading burned dvd media.
I think it’s a OS/software/driver conflict and the drive is ok.
You could test it in another computer.
