Hey all it’s my first post here!
I Have bought the 3550A drive about 8 months ago.
Everything was fine untill i tried to burn data on TDK DVD+R Discs. About 15 of them.
My dirive wasnt able to read none of them-they appeared as blank.
then i tried to read from some other DVDs that i had written or my friends gave me.
It was unable to read all of them but some others were ok.
THE WEIRD PART: In WINDOWS VISTA EVERYTHING WORKS FINE!!!
i tried a fresh install of Windows Xp but it still couldnt read the DVDs!!
I changed the firmware(tried a hell lots of them),i changed the bitsetting,DMA is fine-
WHAT ELSE CAN I TRY???

Is Vista on the same computer?
If not, I’d suggest you try a different IDE cable…

Vista is on the same pc.
I bought a new DVD rom and it reads everything perfectly.
So it must be the drive dying…
ONE QUESTION THOUGH
i changed the firmware, can i revert it back to the original and send it back?
It’s only 8 months old and i can RMA it

This is my first post, hello everyone.

I have the exactly same problem with the same device.
Fresh copy of Windows XP didn’t help, tried newer version of Nero over fresh Windows, didn’t help. Checked IDE cable - working, updated to newest firmware, still the same.
When i used the DVD on another computer, he also couldn’t read it. But when I burned another session, everything was ok, he was able to read both session from my NEC, and the newly written.
Im guessing that this is either nero issue, or writer doesn’t write propertly lead in/out.
There is no problem with CD-s…

Please help someone!
