3500 burns +R @ 16X and -R @ 8X ... Why?

I upgraded my NEC 3500 to the latest firmware to see if that helped. I burn Ridata -R media at 8X and when I try +R media it burns at 16X. I’m sure this is something simple such as an incorrect setting. Any suggestions on how I can get it to burn -R media at 16X? I’m using Nero 6.6. Thanks!

either use disc info tab in nero cd/dvd speed or dvdidentifier and post the code

That’s crap 16x -R media then. You’ll see it when you have scanned them.

Also update Nero and the firmware of your burner.

Hmm, it’s RiekG05. A infamous 8X rated media.
I would suggest you to get better quality media such as TY, Verbatim etc.

8x is ok if its a good burn! Remember speed is not important!

Video= does it play without visable error
Data= is it an exact copy of your data

Some good 8x rated media even can be burnt up to 16x with official firmware, but Ritek G05 is surely not one of them.
