2510a problem

i’ve had this drive for about 2yrs and never had a problem. i just started using maxell media (8x) and am now having problems. i burn a dvd, put it in my stand alone player and it plays for a bit then locks up. i used dvd shrink to make an iso so i can copy it and i get this message ‘data error (cyclic redundancy check)’.

can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

could it be the media or is my drive dying? i am using the 2.18 firmware.

media

What’s the mediacode of the Maxell disc. Use DVDIdentifier to retrieve code.

Have you updated your firmware to latest.

In my experience, this is a result from low quality media (as noted by cnlson).

Try high quality media (eg. TY) to make sure that is not a hardware problem.

this is the media code. any advice on how to burn these discs without making more coasters?

RitekG05 isn’t known to be good media quality.

Try to burn at 4x.

i will give it a shot. thanks.

g05 @ 8x on nec2510 = bad burn always. 4x will be acceptable, but G05 are questionable media now anyway (my opinion).

4x worked great. this is the first time i had a problem with 8x and the first time i’ve had a problem with media. i normally buy tdk or memorex but my wife found maxell for a good price. i think i will stick with tdk or memorex.

thanks for the help.

The problem are that Memorex and probably TDK too change supplier and you don’t know what media you get.

Yup, that’s the reason why they should be avoided.

perhaps immediately it appears this way but if you check the media forum you will find plenty of pepole have dye stability problems with these discs
