2500a wont burn faster than 2.4x dvd

I have firmware 1.06
DMA is enabled
Media is 8X DVD+R

All nero will let me burn is 2.4x. I dont understand why or how. All I know is I have tried a few other programs and still no luck.

I am running:
Windows XP sp1a

any help would be appreciated.

Hi, and welcome!

Let me guess - you are using media that is not supported by this drive :iagree:

Some examples is Sky 8x DVD+R, media code AML 002 (check the media code of your discs with http://DVD.identifier.cdfreaks.com ). Which is crap quality :Z Kong Kong media and not supported by the NEC.

Try these media for 8x:
Mitsubishi/Verbatim 8x DVD+R or DVD-R
Taiyo Yuden 4x or 8x DVD-R or DVD+R.
Mitsubishi 4x DVD-R.

Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:RITEK-R03-002]

Disc Type : [DVD+R]
Manufacturer ID : [RITEK]
Media Type ID : [R03]
Product Revision : [002]
Disc Application Code : [General Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [2.4x - 4x - 8x]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4,482.6 MB = 4.38 GB]

Well it shows that the disc can take it. I have found 1 program to actually work at 4x but nothing with nero :-/

under drive capabilities it shows:

Kind of interesting. I wish NEC would fully support our OEM drives.

That is the speed this drive allows.

I also have ritek r03 here - but they are Product Revision 001 and works at 4x (still not 8x though).

All you could hope for is a newer firmware.

i just reinstalled the firmware for .06 and i got the 4x to come up which was nice. Now just have to hope that new firmware comes around.

I just cant believe that NEC would release a product even if it is OEM and not fully support it. Its a bit odd
