As far as I know, this weird behavior was not reported before. (But I admit I didn't read all the recent threads.)
I just bought Teon 40 pack 8x +R from Staples. (Yeah.. cheap media is always welcome. ) As I expected, it had CMC MAG E01 code.
Quick Info : Herries latest firmware, P4 2.4, 1G Ram, latest CopytoDVD
While making the first burn, I observed something unexpected.
The burner light blinked regularly (about.. 1 sec period) and the burning speed stuck at about 3.1x. It never increased beyond that. I was pretty surprised when the burn finished without any failure message.
To my surprise again, the disc was readable even though the reading curve wasn't that great. I tried another Teon disc and it also maxed at 3.1x speed.
I was worried that the burner may have died. So I tried one ricohjpnr01 from my old stock, and it burned fine at 4x. Obviously the problem is with the media or how the drive handles the media. I've seen a few good reports of E01 burning, so...?
I may try to spend some discs with different firmwares to find out what is the exact problem. But I ordered a new burner before any of these problems happen, so I feel it's not worth wasting discs unless the new burner also shows similar problems.
Can anyone identify the specific problem here?
