2500A burns 2x DVD-RW discs at 1x

I’ve recently bought a NEC ND-2500A burner. I also bought some 2X DVD-RW discs but when I try to record them I can only get 1X writing speed.

Can I force it to write in 2X speed?

This is the information that DVDINFOPro gives me about the disc:

“Get different media!”

The NEC-2500A is an EXCELLENT writer, but it needs top-shelf media (Taiyo Yuden or Mitsubishi Chemical) at this moment… Hopefully NEC will get off their asses and release some firmware updates, but noting that this is an OEM drive, support is likely to be lacking.

Also note: the 2500 is a very picky reader (maybe this will get fixed with new firmware, too!?), and it is highly suggested to get a separate DVD-ROM drive for reading (I’m thinking about a Lite-On XJ-HD166S)…

Princo 2x dvd-rw

can only burn in 1x, approx 50min

Hi, those aren’t to bad results or?
I tried to run K-Probe but can’t get it to work on my NEC.

K-probe only works with Liteon Drives

Results look okay. However, as Princo have a reputation for poor media NEC may have deliberately forced the drive to write at 1x for better writing performance.

I solved this problem for me by flashing my nec with the TDK 880n firmware. Now they are burned with 2x. The two drives are identical but the tdk Firmware seems to be better.

It is viable and safe to flash firmware from DIFFERENT drives/manufacturers?

Anyway, reading the cdfreaks.com review on the NEC 2500A I thought it burned ‘exceptionally well’ on all dvd media tested?

where did you download tdk firmware for dvdr880n?
i don’t logre to find it.

Another Guy on this forum dumped it and sent it to me via mail.

may you forward to oro_rosso@NOSPAM.yahoo.it ?
address…without .NOSPAM.

Please can I also have the original (no rip unlocked or rpc-1) binary TDK 880N firmware? Email at cryogen1@interfree.it
Many thanks!

Princo DVD-RW’s are about the worst media ever made, even 1x seems to be bad for them often :frowning:

Advice: Buy better media!
