Thanks, George

Hi,

the oldest model is the 223F, followed by 223B, then 223C. Specs see here: http://www.samsungodd.com/Eng/Products/Spec/spec.asp

Hi Michael, I couldn’t find the 223c in stock in any UK websites, so I ordered the 223B yesterday. I don’t understand what is the difference between the B and C variants, according to the Samsung ODD website they share the exact same specs. Both variants are available as OEM/BULK, so the naming convention shouldn’t denote the difference between retail and OEM/BULK models. Do you know if they are identical hardware-wise, e.g same chipset? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Newegg had the 223C with free shipping for $25.99 USD so I ordered it this morning. Plus a bonus gift of a 2GB card and reader of some sort.

Yup, I saw the bonus offer you refer to but hesitated too long to purchase, and now they’ve removed it. :frowning:

So, is it any good?

Hi,QUOTE=CyberMan969;2457934 Do you know if they are identical hardware-wise, e.g same chipset? [/QUOTE]There must be some hardware difference. Perhaps the optical pickup, perhaps a newer chipset revision.
Sometimes such changes are supplier-driven.

The SH-S223C uses a SAMSUNG SA57821B03 controller having an ARM CPU core. Other Samsung drives, e.g. the SH-S223B or SH-S243D use a MTK chipsets having a i8051 CPU core.
