My Pioneer DVR-110D doesn't work well as a slave to my Pioneer DVS-105S (it did PIO mode only). My NEC 3540A works fine as a slave to that drive on the same machine.
So, I would say that it isn't a guarantee that a 110D will work well as a slave for you.
One tip when using a master/slave setup is that you should always make the newer device the master. This is because sometimes the slave will be restriced to only speeds that the master is capable of. By making the newer device the master, presumably it will not unduly restrict the slave.
I didn't follow this rule, and probably my setup would have worked properly if I had. But it wasn't a change that fit my setup, so I just removed my older Pioneer reader and use the 110D alone now on that machine.
