1650 with BCIC + CMCMAG E01: No WOPC?!

Has anyone else experienced this strange issue, or is it a quirk with my unit?

Here WOPC doesn’t work with BCIC and CMCMAG E01. ONLY this combination has WOPC issues (BCDC => BCHC work OK, all other MIDs - that I have - work OK).

Actually WOPC does kick in, but at 3.2GB only!

Ideas?

How do you tell that WOPC is working? By the downward spikes in a CDspeed burn graph?

I get anywhere from none to a few shallow spikes on CMCMAGE01(Staples brand) burns and deep spikes starting at about 2.8GB with both BCHC and BCIC.

Other media I get deep spikes from beginning of burn to end.

:iagree: That’s one method, indeed, actually it’s the one I used to check this strange behaviour, to be sure. But first noticed it while burning with ImgBurn and the speed displayed (and the noise) seemed far too constant: with WOPC, speed drops are numerous during the burn (and screetching sounds as well).

I get anywhere from none to a few shallow spikes on CMCMAGE01(Staples brand) burns and deep spikes starting at about 2.8GB with both BCHC and BCIC.
Thanks for the input, looks like I’m not alone then…

What have they done…? - While it’s acceptable to have no WOPC when burning premium CMCMAG E01 (HP branded), for cheaper discs it’s a nightmare. Back to BCDC again for me. sigh

BTW here are some CMCMAGE01 scans I posted with burn graphs:

I wonder if it’s learned behavior that remains despite having SB off or EEPROM cleared of learned media before reflashing. Burning speed is limited on AML002 media on my 1650 but not for some others and on CMCMAGE01 for at least one person as I noted in this post:

I’m curious to know whether flashing back to an earlier firmware will actually change the WOPC behavior back to what you experienced previously or not.
