[qanda]This thread is about the BenQ DW1650. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]In the middle of the last burn Nero crashed. Now the drive makes a new rattling noise and won’t recognize blank media. Anyone with a similar experience? Should I give it up? Any suggestions for a comparable replacement?
If you were more tech savvy you could crack it open, clean the lens, and see if anything came loose inside, but considering the fact that PATA DVD burners are going for $20 at places like NewEgg these days, it’s not even worth the trouble. Just buy a new drive.
Nothing can replace a BenQ, but of what exists today, the Optiarc AD-7200A is an excellent choice.
Thanks for the advice. I’ll give it a crack on the lens cleaning. But $20 is a good fallback.
Damn. News of a death of a BenQ drive is just tragic.

Of course, another option is that he could try to find a used one on eBay.
