It looks like a communication error as its reporting a SCSI_Error when attempting to talk to the burner. Its also reporting Medium_Error when the drive is tested.

I would suggest you uninstall any IDE drivers you have installed and go back to the standard Microsoft ones. Then do another test on the drive.

I presume this is NOT in an external case running over firewire / USB

it is an internal over IDE

I have unstalled the ide controllers, restarted, installed, restarted, then burnt again…

thanks

What specific media were used?

The media seems to be the real problem here.

Could be media! It is the unbranded, infome r20. That is what the Qsuite says.
It came in a 100pk spindle and is silver w/ tinying on the inside:
dvd+r 2 4.7gb v1.2 r20 m 04080806 f1m423

I bought this new burner b/c the old one was blowing it! a rebranced nec-XXXX??
So it may be the first 50 dvds were great! and then once I hit this next section of disks they just suck and my old dvd burner could be fine too?

haha

damn…

I will try to buy some others, people sugested TY? or is it TK? what is that?

thanks
shen

So i grab a dvd from a lot lower in the stack and guess what? They usually crash at 7%, now we are at 25%

So what do ya think just toss out the shitty media?? I am recording at 2.4x… should I try faster?? I can go upto 8x.

thanks
shen

Garb a blank disc and run a qscan on it at the speed you were trying to record, then post the graph so we can see how bad the media is (you’ll need some webspace to post the image, photobucket will do it for free if needed). Can you also post the Media ID code (its under disc type on Qsuit).

I’ve never been able to get a decent burn at 2.4X. Preferred speed is 8X as Benq’s do not write well at very low speeds although 4X is also acceptable.

infome r20 is usually total rubbish - especially down towards the middle of the pack. This disc for example skipped and froze… and then I put it in the trash.

I am doing the scan now.
Doing the scan now but I cannot get my xbox to recognise a dvd-video disc I made…
My computer recognises it fine, is it b/c I switched the bit to dvd+r versus dvd-rom?
thanks
shen

PS how do I determine if a disc is Tayo Yuden before I buy them?
thanks

here it is…

That is a bad disc. The inner tracks are not followable by the laser & it looks like quite a big spike at the beginning by the way that the line comes down.

I would be looking at returning those discs as I think that anything you write to those discs will fail.

What speed is this burn at? Not a great scan, but it should be fine for playback, the jitter is low and the large spikes are still not bad enough to create skipping or read back issues with most players. Have you tried playing back this disc in a standalone DVD player? Have you done a transfer rate test on the disc?
