Windows 2000 SP4
Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R
I'm running a second RAM check so I'll post the rest of the hardware specs later.
Suddenly I'm having problems. All of my burned movies have severe burn errors (skips, stutters, occasional heavy artifacting, etc.), with five or more errors being in the neighborhood of an average. The last time I had this problem it was a bad stick of RAM, and removing it solved the problem immediately. It's back, but my initial RAM test didn't return an immediate error like it did last time. I ran a full HDD test and it came back fine. I have defrag software set to nightly defrags so that isn't it either. I swapped the 1640 out for a DRU-810A (that's just a rebranded 1640, right) that has much less wear (at least, I've only burned a few DVDs with it), not that the original 1640 was old.. The problem seemed to get worse!
Is there any diagnostic software for DVD-RW drives? How do I figure out what the problem is? I did just get a fresh batch of TY media from Rima but I'm guessing that isn't the problem; I ran through a spindle okay before the problems started.
I rip with DVD Decrypter, Reauthor with DVD Shrink & DVD-Lab, and burn with ImgTool Classic. I'm tired of getting nothing but coasters, how do I run down my problem?
Edit: I guess I should put each drive in my other computer and see if the problem persists, at least that way I can possibly eliminate the burners as the source of the problem.
