Qw: what best f/w and settings for good output:

What media do you have?
Verbatim - 16x (50), from BB - main media
Fujfilm (T02) -8x
Too bad media variability is so high that is very difficult to answer.
BSOB is a good firmware with -R media, but you need to do some tests personally to be sure.
WOPC can be disabled for hi quality media, and SB improve slightly quality if you keep it on.

Firstly the f/w is fine for the media you have.
With MCC 03RG20 Have SB enabled for all media WOPC disabled OS disabled.
With the T02 have SB enabled for all media WOPC enabled & OS enabled too.
These are just my personal preferences.

In the above I like geno888 took this to mean DVD-R.
Even with MCC 004 the settings would be as in my previous post.
Although f/w wise with + media BSLB/BSMB might be better options.
I also thought that you were referring to -R media
