163d won't read DVDs after reformat

I had a corrupt registry last week and had to reformat and reinstall windows on my c: drive. I also have a d: drive which was not reformatted. Everything went fine, except now I’ve discovered that my Liteon 163d won’t read DVD’s at all. It does read CD’s just fine, just not DVD’s.

I’m running WinXP on an amd 1800+.

I have upgraded the firmware to GHR8 but that didn’t do a thing. I’m obviously thinking this has something to do with Windows. Should I just uninstall the drive and reinstall? Your help would be appreciated!

Are you sure you have an RPC1 drive? Maybe your drive is in the wrong region setting and you need to get an RPC 1 firmware.
In that case, I suggest :

http://digi.web1000.com or http://digitri.tk or http://kickme.to/digitri

and download a region free firmware for your drive.

Don’t think it has anything to do with region. After upgrading the firmware it says it doesn’t have a region, and I have to select one. But since it can’t read DVD’s, when I try to select a region it constantly says to add a region 1 dvd, even though one’s in the drive.

I think it’s got something to do with the decoder. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled PowerDVD to no avail. I’ve uninstalled the drive and the same problem pops up.
