1633S won't read CD/CD-RW but read DVD

Hi, ok i’m new here.

I’ve just bought a LITEON 1633S

Last week I burn 4 CDs … all fine

Yesterday, I try to clear (quick method) a CD-RW with Alcoohol … process went to 100% but hanged (no message “clearing finished”). So I cancel the clearing. I put another CD-RW, and that was strange cause Windows said “No media inserted”. I try original CDs (music, software) and same result : no media inserted. The driver make a little crappy noise, like it try to read the CD but it’s blocked. I try a DVD and it works fine, can play/read without error.

Do you think my 1633S is crashed, so I need to change it ?

Thanks in advance.

For infos on my PC :

I have my 1633S on IDE channel 1 set as master
My Maxtor S-ATA is on IDE channel 2 (cause of S-ATA it’s not on IDE 1) set as master

I’m using a generic Drive with Alcoohol, set as Z:\

Nero InfoTool 2.27

Since nobody else has answered, I will give my 2 cents worth.

At a guess I would say it’s the drive. Erase uses the highest power requirement of the OPU and probably caused the OPU to fail. From another experience, I know the DVD and CD side of the OPU is separate, so this is why the DVDs still works.

Thank for the answer COdeKing, and as a conclusion, do I need to change my drive ??? anyway, “kind of chance” my drive is still guarantee

Yes, I would say so. You could try the drive in another system, if you have access to one, just to be sure.
