I have two 1620s (Retail). I am having problems reading some prior burned DVD-R media. The media is not that great (cheap I think if I remember) and I burned them several years ago when I had a Pioneer burner. There are no marks on the media and I tried 12 of them so far , some will read part way on one of the two drives and others will not read at all on the other one. They will all play fine in a standalone DVD player.
Both drives can read back other previously recorded DVD+Rs\DVD-ROMS no problem.
I have a few questions,
Could the read ability of the drives vary over the years. They are both a few years old (when the 1620 was out new) & this issue is compounded by trying to read questionable material. Or does a drives ability to read a DVD go from working to not working. Trying to figure if I need to look into a newer BENQ.
Does firmware have an effect on reading variances? Currently using F\W B7W9.
